My DS1 will be turning two at the end of June and sucks his thumb a lot. Does anyone have any tips on how to break this habit?

I still suck my thumb Blush , I really wish I didn't so I think you are doing the right thing trying to nip it in the bud, although maybe he is still a little young. I can remember my mother trying a lot of different things but I think that your DS is probably too young for some of them to work:

  • Distraction, when he sucks, distract him, pass him a toy etc to see if you can reduce it to night time only
  • If it is still available I can remember having a foul tasting nail varnish painted onto my thumbs (I just peeled it off)
  • Making him aware of it and encouraging him to stop
  • Thumb guards
