Hello!

Can anyone tell me if I can sterilise a dummy in the microwave without a microwave steriliser?

Thanks!

Why sterilize the dummy at all? Run it under hot water and pop it back into the baby's mouth.

I've never used on before. The instructions say to sterilise the thing!

If it's new out of the packet you can boil it (in a pan of boiling water on the hob) for 10 mins.(I don't know why but it's recommended). After that, what Tee said. Or I just used to put them in a bowl and pour boiling water from the kettle over them. Don't wash them in the dishwasher Smile

I don't think I ever did more than just wash them in hot water when they were new. Even when I had a sterilizer for bottles.

I agree, better to boil on stove top, if you really want to, than the put them in microwave without a sterilizer.

Otherwise, just wash them.

But as soon as you use your fingers to squeeze out the water, it is no longer sterile, so there really is no point in boiling it to begin with.

I'm not a big steriliser but do sterilise new stuff just in case of the miniscule chance that something really really horrid has got on it during the packing process. I don't know if they are packed in a sterile environment so prefer to be a bit paranoid about it. After that I very rarely bother.
