Anyone with an impulsive/unpredictable child?

Ds is 4.4 and in every other aspect is a "normal" child, very excitable, active and talks non-stop but in his abilities and milestones is fine.Though must add he does have speech difficulties for which he sees a SALT and is improving.

He will run over a road without thinking but could recite green cross code and say exactly what he should do. He will hit because he wants something but with no warning. Usually you can see a build up to a situation and defuse it with other kids but not him.

I am quite strict with him so he knows what is right and wrong and will happily tell you what he should do but when in certain situations he just cannot help himself! He still doesn't make the connection between actions and consequences which he should be.

He gets time out, removal of favourite toys, loss of priviledges but nothing seems to bother him! Just looking for any advice or anyone with similar experience?

My DS is 4 in May, he too is a little behind with his speech and we are seeing a SALT. The way you describe your DS is EXACTLY the way I would describe mine.

Not sure I can give you advice though as because I do all the things that you do. He is better behaved when his sister is not around but wants my attention constantly.

That's alright we've had a very trying week and he's driving me insane. He's been like this for as long as i remember but i always thought he would grow out of it but ..........

He starts school in August and don't want him to be end up labelled a trouble maker. I used to think it must be me but dd1 is 2 and she's great, speech is fantastic , you can reason with her and she LISTENS!!!!

I know it probably sounds like I am generalising but I believe boys are a little slower with speech than girls. DD was also 2 and she could speak in sentences, DS still doesn't always speak in sentences now.

My DS also starts in school in September and I am worried (as he will only be 4 in May) that he will not adjust very well to school because he is so young and because he prefers to play rather than to learn. Luckily though, he's in Foundation Stage Nursery and the changeover to reception won't mean much to him as he will still be in the same area, playing with the same toys but just expected to work more.

His teacher seems to think that school will be good for him because it is more structured. Nursery (in Scotland) is child centered so he has to find things to do rather than being told and this is when he gets into trouble.

I do think boys are slightly slower with the speech aswell and immature. Also had dd2 6 weeks ago so some of this may well be down to that but just not sure what to do with him

He might be playing up too out of jealousy. Am more than certain DS would be very put out by a new baby. As far he is concerned he is "my baby".
