Crawling question

Hi there,

I'm new here, my baby is 7 months and has been mobile/backwards crawling since 5 months. Recently she's started commando crawling forwards (and everywhere!) she has started to cross crawl on all fours but only a could of "steps" then falls into commando crawling. I think maybe she knows how to do it/the concept but is not quite strong enough yet.

My question is, is commando crawling considered "crawling"? Because she is crawling about just not cross crawling (only manages to do this a little bit), also should she be doing proper cross crawling by now or is this normal?

Thank you!

Most are crawling at 8mo but some, including my dn bypassed crawling and walked early. Crawling is not considered a developmental milestone like sitting up or walking so not sure you'll get a definitive answer. My friend ds was commando creeping etc at 6mo but mine never did, she just went backwards and forwards at 7mo.

totally normal. My ds didn't do any crawling at all till he was one. I only crawled backwards.

Thank you....so is commando crawling/creeping consider crawling or only cross crawling?

Thank you for your answers, I didn't realise crawling wasn't considered a milestone!

Not sure but I think it's considered pre-crawling.

I'm sure you can call it crawling for boasting purposes! Smile

My DS did commando first and then would pop up onto all fours, look around and then back onto his belly. Like a tiny soldier.

He then progressed within a couple of weeks to "normal" crawling. So it's not an either/or scenario.

That's what baby seems to be doing going on all fours cross crawling a bit then commando crawling the rest of the time. I only ask because I've told some mum friends she was crawling as well....she is. But had some btchy comments tht she wasn't even though, well, she is, jut not always* on all fours, lik 90% commando crawling.

Thank you all.
