My son is 20 months and i'm wondering if we should possibly get him into his big boy bed yet?

we've just done it at 2 and a half! I suppose its really just about the child as an individual, and their understanding, now he understands not to wander downstairs without us...

I left my daughter in her cot til she was over 3! She never tied to climb out and it was simply safer - and easier - than a bed she could escape from.. Eventually she asked to have a bed, and we changed that day. I did feel a bit bad leaving her for so long, but intend on doing the same with DS. I'm all for an easy life and no fear of then wandering off..

Apologies for the typo ridden post..

Me too for an easy life, kept DD in her cot as long as I could!

Depends on potty training too. Not ideal for a toddler to be stuck in a cot when they desperately need a wee and they can see the potty the other side of the room!

Ds1 went into a toddler bed just after 2 and into a full size single at around 2 1/2.

Ds2 went into a single at 16months.

My mum bought 2 full size single beds for the dc's new room so when ds2 stopped co-sleeping at 16 months he went straight into the full size single bed & we haven't had any problems.

my 24 month old is still in cot and i don't plan on changing that anytime soon. He's never tried to climb out yet and seems perfectly happy. Also i put him in there in the mornings while i have a shower, throw a few books and toys in and he's happy, not sure how i'll get a shower when he's in a bed, hopefully by then he'll be sensible enough to sit and watch tv for 5 mins

Ideally before they learn to climb out! Or in our case the day after he climbed out. It was just short of his second birthday - and just before his baby brother arrived. I wasn't amused!

thanks everybody! i thought i was leaving it too late but he seems fine in his cot and most nights i can hear him rolling about and banging into the sides. very restless sleeper. i think we can wait a while.

thanks x

I agree its the climbing out of the cot which made me move DS1 at just before 2 - my DS2 is 2 y 4 m and not sign of it yet
