14mo stranger anxiety. Does it get better?

My 14mo dd is primarily looked after by me, dad or my mum so we've not had to put her in nursery. neither of us see family on a regular basis because og work and location. I feel because of this we've held dd back socially. She hates strangers, family she doesn't see regularly. She's getting better, she'll let them talk to her but will not let anyone else touch or hold her. Does it get better, i'm dreading any concept of nursery. I can't see her ever being okay with it. She's very shy and sensitive.

It gets better. It is appropriate for her to fear strangers at that age, and if she is a naturally shy person too, it might take time for her to warm to people.

I would say make sure she gets to socialise with others (baby groups, classes, etc) with you or someone she trusts there with her and just let her develop confidence in her own time.

My DD is 21 months and seemed to improve a lot at about 18 months, she is also naturally shy though and I am a little nervous about preschool next year, but it is another whole year away so I try not to worry!
