My dd is 14weeks and is still wearing all but one of her newborn/first size baby grows. The HV said she's growing fine/got no concerns, but was just wondering when other peoples dc's grew out of their first size clothes? She has also only just moved up into size 2 nappies

DD was in newborn size until 4 months, and 0-3 until 8 months Grin
She started to level out after that, but is still one size behind her age iyswim.
As long as you can see your baby is healthy, I wouldn't be concerned Smile

DD never fitted in the first size when straight to 0-3 months

Jubilcece · 03/06/2012 21:42

My DD wore newborn size but nly for a few weeks.

My two sons never wore newborn sized clothes or nappies as they weren't big enough for them. Tehy went straight into size 1 nappies and 0-3 months clothes.

happy2bhomely · 03/06/2012 21:50

Well, Ds was over 11 lbs at birth so never got to wear all the lovely tiny clothes I got him or all the teeny tiny nappies.

First size goes up to about 10 lbs doesn't it? I suppose it depends what she weighed when she was born!

I wouldn't worry.

amieis · 03/06/2012 21:56

She was 8lb5oz when she was born and went straight into the pampers newbaby size 1 nappies... I'm not particularly worried more curious whether she's little or the sizings are a bit off!

happy according to the labels they go up to about 9lbs! Maybe she's inherited the petite gene from mil!

I found that different brands came up differently. Some newborn bits were almost big enough, other times he needed 3-6 months!

Also, with nappies, he needed size 5's from about 4 months but is still in them at 2. They just fit differently now his tummy and legs have slimmed down.

Baby clothes sizes are even more bonkers than women's ones! Dd has outgrown her 0-3 clothes at 14 weeks but some 'newborn' ones were the same size. And some 3-6 months don't fit despite her being 16 weeks and small, and some 0-3 vests still fit.

With ds I didn't know about newborn clothes so he had nothing smaller than 0-3. We had to grab more clothes when he was in hospital for 3 days and turned out his going-home outfit was actually a 6-9mo babygro - it wasn't that loose!

duchesse · 03/06/2012 22:32

DS by about 2 weeks, all the DDs at about 3 months. Very much depends. Some babies don't ever fit them.

Belmo · 03/06/2012 22:57

4 weeks, I think. She's growing out of 12-18 month stuff at 9 months though!

EBDTeacher · 04/06/2012 05:58

I took beautiful newborn clothes into the hospital for DS but he didn't fit in them. We were in three days and DH had to nip to mothercare to buy 0-3m stuff.

He was only 9lb14 but he's built very broad and the shoulders were too narrow in newborn clothes, especially more 'designer' type brands. I think it does depend a bit on how your baby is made.

Now at 21mo he's wearing 4yo tshirts for the same reason!

CarpeJugulum · 04/06/2012 06:17

DS never wore newborn (too long). He started in 0-3mo and was in them for about 2 months.

He's 20mo and is in 9-12mo trousers (only now getting a bit short) and 2-3yo tops. Confused

I have started to regard sizing on labels as optional! Grin

JubileeTatWearer · 04/06/2012 06:19

I had to go and buy tiny newborn ones for my DD who was under 6lbs at birth. She was in 0-3 until almost 6mo.

My DS is about average, was in newborn for 1-2 weeks, then has moved up a size pretty much bang on every time, or no more than a week early.

But sizes really do vary hugely from brand to brand.

cuteable · 04/06/2012 06:42

Ds was in them for 6 weeks after that he grew v quickly, dd was never in them as she was 9lb 6oz. However at 12months she is still in 6-9 months and infact she has a couple of 3-6mnt outfits that still fit....

RemembersButtonMoon · 04/06/2012 07:07

My little one was born at 8lb 4oz... spent a month (if that) in newborn size and 8 weeks in 0-3 months. Now at 11 weeks he's wearing 3-6mnths comfortably. What can I say, he loves his milk?

SoupDragon · 04/06/2012 07:15

With DS1, as soon as he was born :). At 10lb 1oz we had to take all the newborn ones back and switch them for 0-3 months.

DS2 and DD were only in newborn for a fortnight at the most.

jaggythistle · 04/06/2012 07:37

both DSs probably between 4 and 6 weeks.

DS2 is nearly 7 weeks and filling 0-3 stuff pretty well.

they always seem to grow out of sleepsuits and then vests first!

mejon · 04/06/2012 10:13

DD2 is 16m and is still wearing her 3-6m M&S vests. I find their stuff to be huge and she was in the 'up to 1m' ones for ages too. She's not particularly tiny - 25th centile I think. Clothes obviously last longer but it is a bit annoying when you've maybe bought some specifically summery that don't fit until the depths of winter or vice versa.

CecilyP · 04/06/2012 11:55

OP do you mean newborn or 0-3 months? DS only had 0-3 months (as newborn weren't so readily available then, and I didn't know how small he would be) and these were miles too big at first but outgrown at about 10 weeks. Different brands are slightly different and M & S 0-3 months would have been unthinkable at 0 but lasted till about 16 weeks.

amieis · 04/06/2012 13:25

I mean the newborn ones cecilyp ... She has 0-3 month ones too but still fits in all her newborn stuff too!!!

DD was 8lb at birth and wore her newborn stuff for probably 2-3 months. She has an odd growing pattern though. She grows in fits and starts, so stays the same size for months them jumps. Two weeks ago at 12 months she was wearing the stuff she wore before Xmas when she was 6 months. Now, a fortnight on she''s in 18 month old gear and has gone from 0.4 centile to 50th for length. Weight has stayed on the same centile right though but her length looks like a zigzag.
