Sleep or lack of it

My 15 month old son has never been what you would describe as a good sleeper, up until last month he would wake every 2 hours or so through the night, something finally clicked and he would sleep until 4ish then we would get him back to sleep until around 6 so all was well. Then this last week or so he has been waking up around 1 and not going back to sleep until 4:30. Then he wakes for the day around 7. He must be shattered, we have tried everything to get him back to sleep. We are so tired it's pretty awful and tense in our house at the moment.

Any advice?

No advice, sorry. But this is what my chronic none sleeping DS1 did. I went back to work at 12 months, and he was up 2-4 most nights. Screamed if I left him.
In the end I made a bed on his floor, and dozed on the floor while he sat in his cot and held my hand. Could you co-sleep from 1am? He's stopped waking for long periods but still doesn't sleep through age 3 tho. Sorry.

Sympathies - sleep deprivation is horrible (DS2 sleeps through most nights tho)
