genaraldogsbody1... they come in all sizes

dd used to start 3-6 month clothing when sie was 6months +

ds on the other hand... outgrew 3-6 months at 4 months

I also found it depends on brand/nationality of clothing how the sizing fits.

How's you lo doing on the curves?

ds is 98 on weight and 75 on height... good forward prop

leogaela · 21/02/2006 14:13

The growth may slow down, don't buy clothes too far ahead.
A friends baby was always big (right on the top of the scale), now she is 20 months and much smaller than average.

generaldogsbody1 · 21/02/2006 14:15

98 for hight and about 75 for weight

dont buy too far ahead. dd2 was huuuge! she went straight into 0-3 stuff at birth, by 6months old was wearing things for 12-18months. at the grand age of 3.5years, her clothes are now for 5-6year olds. same size shoe as her older sister (who is 6next month).

generaldogsbody1 · 21/02/2006 14:17

my db played fwd prop lol
ds 1 is like that, broad and brawny

misdee · 21/02/2006 14:18

dd2 went off the charts at about 6months old as well.

generaldogsbody1 · 21/02/2006 14:21

i have learned my lesson missdee, all the stuff i don't use goes to czeck rep so i'm not worried about it, some one who needs it will have the use of it

yup my ds is 12 weeks and is in 6-9 month clothes too.

amyjade · 21/02/2006 14:40

Dd1, 57cm long at birth and was always much taller than her friends of the same age. At 18 months she was in 2-3 year clothes.

Dd2 is 8 months and already in 12-18 months!!

I find it all depends on the shop you buy the clothes from, Next,Debenhams and Gap clothes are quite small so always need next size up.
Where as Mothercare,MandS,H&M all about right for sizes.

My niece is 21 months and very petite for her age Dd2 nearly weighs the same as her at 8 months and can even wear some of her clothes!!

WigWamBam · 21/02/2006 14:52

My dd was into 6 - 9 months at about 3 months. She's continued to be tall, she's not 5 yet and is in age 7 clothes. It's not a problem; buy the clothes that fit her and don't worry about what the size label says. It's more of a problem when they're older - finding jumpers that reach to her waist yet don't have arms that scrape the floor is quite difficult!

The sizes are intended for average sized children, which by definition means that there will always be lots of children either too small or two big for them. And as someone else mentioned, sizes are really variable - Adams and Next come up really small, whereas M&S and H&M, etc, are much bigger.

lilianna · 21/02/2006 14:55

ds2 is 6 months and in 12-18month clothing.

sairax · 21/02/2006 15:01

My son is 10 months old, his in 6-9 clothing...but his shoe size is 12-18!!!!

NannyL · 21/02/2006 20:03

NOt at all

know laods and loads of babies who are in 6 - 9 month clothes (and biogger [shock}) before they are even 3 months old!

tribpot · 21/02/2006 20:06

Mine seems to have about 3 weeks in which he fitted in 6-9 months properly (he'll be 8 months tomorrow). His cousin, aged 2 at end of March, is in the same size clothes now . My plans of inheriting all his old stuff are out of the window and it looks like it'll be the other way around

poppiesinaline · 21/02/2006 20:14

Mind you - don't you find that some of the sizing of clothes are way off sometimes! At the weekend DS1 wore a jumper that is aged 4 - he's 9! I know he's small but he's not THAT small!!!!

kittyfish · 21/02/2006 20:24

I've got a 10mo who is just getting into (much more expensive) 12-18mo clothes. Having said that Redoute and Vertbaudet clothes seem particularly small. Only bought Vertbaudet once and thought quality was crap too. Blinking French.

lahdeedah · 21/02/2006 20:26

My DD will be 11 months next week, and wears mostly 18-24m size, but has wearable things ranging from 9-12m to 2-3 yrs. I find that the more expensive the clothes, the smaller the cut (much the same as adult clothes). It's such a PITA when you buy something and it's too small - especially as I have a habit of shrinking stuff in the wash too! I've started buying 2-3 yrs as a matter of course now, she will just have to look a bit baggy for a while!!

milward · 21/02/2006 20:28

Yep - ds 4 is now 5 months (21 wks) & in M&S 12-18 month vests!!

expatinscotland · 21/02/2006 20:29

dd2 is a butterball! she's nearly 11 weeks and already in 3-6mos in US clothes, which are generally a little more generous in sizing.

she was born at 6lbs., 9oz., but it already 11lbs., 8 oz!

busybaby · 21/02/2006 20:46

They're all sooo different - my 19.5 week old is still in some of her newborn stuff!!

Wallace · 21/02/2006 20:54

My ds grew like a mushroom - he doubled his birth weight by the grand old age of 7 weeks

GillL · 22/02/2006 13:56

My dd is the opposite. She's 11 months and is mainly in 6-9 still wears some 3-6 months clothes. She was born last March and was given loads of lovely summer dresses in 3-6 but was still in 0-3 in August.
