Sorry if this isn't the right place to post but I think it's one of the busiest and I need some advice.
DD is 14mths and has tonsillitis, she's on erythromycin. She's had her milk this morning about 6oz, and she's had weetabix but I can't get her to drink any water. She just pushes the cup away and cries. She has been drinking on and off but today she is just refusing. I tried the other day when she wasn't drinking to put a bit of flavour in the water but she still refused, she normally loves water. Last night after a long nap she was gasping and downed half a cup but hasn't had much since then. I'm really worried that she's dehydrated as her nappy wasn't very wet this moring after 12hrs of wearing it although I've just changed her again and it was quite wet this time.
I've got some dioralyte but if I can't get her to drink how do I give it to her.
She hasn't had a fever for a couple of days now.

Glad you got her to have an ice lolly. How is she getting on now?

ElleOhElle · 01/06/2012 15:22

She's now refusing the lolly, and threw a hissy fit when I gave her water in the syringe. She's only eaten half a rice cake and half a fruit pot since breakfast.
I've managed to get her to have some warm watered down milk from her bottle so hopefully that'll do for a while.
She is on erythromycin antibiotics babydollsmum but apparently they affect appetite and can make them sick so it's not surprising she doesn't want much but it's sooooo unlike her to refuse food

I've tried all four different cups, that worked yesterday but not today. Nope won't take from a teaspoon, she's wised to that now.

Have you tried yoghurt? It's reasonably liquid and was one of the few things DS would eat when he had tonsillitis and was refusing to drink much at all. The GP said that he wouldn't come to much harm living on nothing but yoghurt for a few days, and it was a much better option than him getting more dehydrated.

Hope the anti-bs kick in and she's feeling better soon

Success, she's just eaten half a jacket potato with tuna and sweetcorn, a whole pot of tropical fruit chunks in juice and even drank some of the juice!

Sounds like the antibiotics are kicking in - hope she feels a lot better soon!
