My DS has been really slow with his teeth. As I say, he's only got 6 teeth, and only two on the bottom. I can't tell as he doesn't like to hold his mouth open for us, but I can't see any more coming through.

Is this particularly slow or just how it goes for some babies?

He has the first 6 teeth that babies are expected to get. There is usually a break between these 6 coming through and the next 10. They are possibly a bit later than average, but nothing to worry about.

BabydollsMum · 31/05/2012 15:05

That's interesting CecilyP I didn't know there was a break - DD had her first 6 for ages and after about two months of nothing she's got about 5 coming together now. (Poor love!) She is 15.5months though, so I guess that's average, but the point is I think they'll come thick and fast when the they do come in.

lacrossestick · 31/05/2012 15:07

Thick and fast...eeek!! I'll look forward to that...

No, I didn't know that either Cecily. Thanks for the info.

Yes definitely thick and fast, DS got the first 6 quite early, then the next 10 all came in between about 14 and 16 months.

Rowgtfc72 · 01/06/2012 21:18

Dd just had her top fangs at thirteen months nothing else. She looked like a little vampire.

ipanicked · 01/06/2012 22:10

Snap! Me too with 18mo DD. in fact she hasn't grown a new tooth for about 8 months after getting the first 6 within a month. I wasn't worried - should I be? Grin

Vizzini · 02/06/2012 08:54

DD didn't get her first tooth until 15 months. At 27 months she has about eight!

sagenod · 02/06/2012 23:47

Snap! DS2 had no teeth up to 14mo, then 2, at 17m he now has 6 including one molar(!) three on the bottom and 2 big big top teeth!

The paediatrician says it is perfectly normal, and to expect the rest to come through all at once...

Supergiggle · 03/06/2012 08:56

When my twins were 18 months ( 2 and a half now) ddt1 had 4 teeth and ddt2 had 8! Even now ddt1 still has another 6 left to come through while ddt2 has all of hers :)

flagnogbagnog · 03/06/2012 09:41

DD got 4 teeth when she was 9 months old and then nothing more at all until 18 months! I think she got another 4, then another gap until the rest came through before she was 2. I was told that it was a good thing though, it delays the time in which tooth decay can start.

poppy283 · 03/06/2012 22:26

Might be a coincidence but as soon as Dd started eating apples whole (at around 14m) her teeth came thick and fast. I think she had 4 or 5 teeth at that point.
Do put a bib on though as the juice is a pain to get out of their clothes!

Mibby · 05/06/2012 16:32

Dd is 18 months and has 9 teeth, 7 fully through and 2 partially through. Visited the dentist last week and was told this is perfectly fine

brightonbleach · 05/06/2012 17:02

same here, front teeth top and bottom suddenly came in between 10-12 months then nothing till 15-6m :) he has them all now and 2 and a half. Did make him a bit slower at chewing 'proper' food as he had no back chompers :)

alana39 · 05/06/2012 20:14

DS3 had no teeth until 14 months. At 18 he had no more than 6 and actually it might have been 5.

At 30 months he has most of them. DS 1 & 2 were similar. So were DH and I!

Try not to worry.

teobaldo · 06/06/2012 07:54

Oh... now I worry than, dd1 is 15 months and only has 2 teeth - the bottom ones. She has been having signs of teething for a while but now she seems happy and still no top teeth. DS1 was the opposite I think he had 5 by 5 months...

RunWorkCook · 06/06/2012 08:06

Teobaldo please don't worry. Went through this myself with DS1 who didn't have any teeth until 12months. Got his second at 17 months then got the rest over about a month just before he was 2 (although they came in a strange order, some molars before upper incisors!) All fine now and the teething was much easier than DS2 who followed a slightly more conventional pattern.

skybluepearl · 06/06/2012 22:45

All my kids got their first teeth at one year old. My youngest is now 16 months and has 5 teeth. I'm not worried though as the eldest have great teeth!

MikeLitoris · 06/06/2012 22:50

Dd1 didn't get her first tooth until 18 months. She only had 2 at 20 months then suddenly got loads all together.

She is now 8yo and has only been losing her baby teeth for a few months.

renlo · 06/06/2012 22:59

Both mine were slow teeters (so was I apparently). My almost 19 month old has 5 teeth (just!) two at the top and 2.5 on bottom. My 4.5 year old didn't get all hers till she was way past 2. I worried like mad when my first was little as virtually every other baby I knew had loads by age 1 where as her first tooth didn't appear till she was 13 months. Same with her sister. I really wouldn't worry, neither of them had/have any trouble eating what we eat, they develop gums of steel, methinks!Grin

umiaisha · 07/06/2012 11:50

DD1 got her first tooth at 13 months.

Both my sister and I were late getting our teeth too. Probably an old wives tale, but they say that the later you get your teeth the stronger they and subsequent ones are and the far less painful the teething process is. Might be something in it though as both Dsis and I have no fillings at 29 and 32 and the dentist is always raving about DD's strong clean teeth. DD also never showed any signs/symptoms of teething whereas her brother who got his teeth a lot earlier has suffered quite badly.

teobaldo · 08/06/2012 13:13

ok will go back to my no worry state than !
