Normal for my 6 yr old to only want to wear slumpy clothes?

My 6 yr old daughter has a wardrobe full of clothes, but increasingly she will only wear one of about 4 different outfits, and all of these are very drab, baggy, 'slumpy' clothes, mostly leggings and t-shirts.

I have always let her choose her own clothes, since she was able to have an opinion. Have never passed comment, or insisted she wear anything in particular.

Now she won't even wear shorts to school - only long leggings, jeans or tracksuit trousers. Will wear a dress occasionally, but only with a long sleeved t-shirt and long leggings underneath.

She looks a scruff! Which I don't really mind (although I would like to see her in nice clothes sometimes, I do see that it's her choice).

Is this pretty normal? The other girls in her class seem to wear summer dresses and skirts and sparkles and frills.

My dd prefers similar clothes. We compromised by buying boys clothes as they tend to be a bit baggier and more practical for doing all the tree climbing/running around that she enjoys.

She is a bit older now and will wear a dress if the occasion calls for it, but would still prefer to be in combat pants and a baggy T-shirt. I really don't mind though as she has hit the age where she is starting to develop and I rather like that she is choosing not to wear the revealing tight clothes worn by many of her peers.

My six year old only likes leggings and t shirts. She doesn't like anything tight around her waist and she likes her knees and arms covered - no matter what the weather.

She will wear a party dress sometimes. And protests a lot about her school summer dress.

I'm trying to encourage her to wear prettier tops with her leggings but it's not really working.

She has friends who like the sparkly dresses and will wear party dresses every day of the year, given the choice.

I think it probably comes from my genes - I'm very much a jeans and t shirt person.

It's a shame really because she looks lovely in a dress. But I try to save my "control" for things that really matter. If she's happy, then I wouldn't worry.
