At what age were your DCs totally off the bottle?

DD is 15 months and still has a bottle first thing in the morning and at night, then just water or juice during the day. Should I be in a hurry to wean? There always seems to be an excuse not to do it, like colds or teething, and she's never had a dummy/sucked her thumb/had a comfort blanket etc, so it's her only 'babyish' behaviour that she still does. Still feels totally natural to be TBH, but I know the guidelines say differently...

I wouldn't worry too much. My dd was 18mo when she gave up bottles we took them away and she never had any comforters etc.
She is 2 and half now, and just drinks from a sippy cup, and has milk in that before bed, to settle her as she'sa nightmare otherwise.

i wouldnt worry at all, first 3 bfed and weaned at age 18mths, then almost 4 and then 3yrs 5mths, ds4 had a bottle and weaned from it totally at 3yrs 5mths, he was just down to his bedtime bottle and then we went on holiday and 'forgot' it :)

dd is 17mths and has a bottle in the morning and the evening, just dirnks water from a cup in the day, she will give it up when she is ready as my others did :)

dd was 15 months and ds was about 11 months. With ds I started offering some milk in a cup once a day from around 9 months and by 11 months he took all his milk from a cup

iMoniker · 29/05/2012 13:18

14, 18, 12 months respectively

DS2 had an evening bottle till he was nearly 2 and a half.

My DS is almost 2 and still has a bottle before bed. I'm not too worried about it and don't expect him to give it up for a while yet.

lilybeansmummy · 29/05/2012 15:42

my dd is nearly 2 aswell and still has morning and bedtime bottles, im not in any rush to wean her off them yet! plenty of time :D

Ah this is reassuring. My 20 month old DD still has bedtime bottle. I have made no effort to drop it as she drinks the lots and it is the only time she will lie in my arms for more than 3 secs.

MirandaWest · 29/05/2012 19:42

Can't remember with DS. Some time when he was 1. With DD she was having up to three bottles during the night and it got a bit daft. When she was 2 we went and bought "big girl beakers" and the sleep improved a lot.

StarMeKitten · 29/05/2012 19:46

My 16mo still has a bottle before bed. I was thinking of trying to get rid of it at 18mo but don't think I have the heart to..

happygilmore · 29/05/2012 19:56

My DD is 2 and still has a bottle of milk before bed. We brush her teeth afterwards so can't get too worked up about it tbh.

BabydollsMum · 29/05/2012 20:11

Thanks so much all. That's reassuring. Agreed it's the only time she'll sit still with me too so I don't really want to stop her for now.
