Teething troubles

My DS is 19 wks and is teething. He is constantly gnawing on my shoulder, toys and anything he can find and when it's very painful he stuffs his fists and muslin cloths into his mouth. I've tried Calgel and Boots teething powders as well as giving him Calpol once during the night but nothing helps.

Some days he just cries and whines all day. I hate to see him in pain. Can anyone recommend any remedies, homemade or other?

i mix the teething powders with nurofen rather than calpol cos it brings down the swelling and inflammation x

Ok. How often do you give that?

the nurofen is every 8 hrs but if needed give calpol and teething powders inbetween, hope this helps x

I saw no difference with the powders. And gels just slip off IMO.

I kept my two dosed up with calpol or nurofen. Ds2 teethed terribly for ages-bright red cheeks, hot to touch cheeks, dribbling, sore bum, crankiness-everything.

I also found that cold things helped. Like a cold teething ring. Cold yoghurt, cold blended fruit. Cold water. I made some water ice lollies and held them do ds2 could mouth them- but make sure he has a bib as most of it ends up as dribble Wink

Good luck, and hope it passes quickly

did it help at all??

Sounds like teething to me.

DD wears an amber teething necklace - a lot of mums swear by them (but TBH, I might not be so keen for a little boy to wear it - you know what it's like when strangers get the gender of your baby wrong!) I think it helps her but I'm loathe to take it off now for fear she'll turn into a complete monster. Agree re Nurofen - definitely seems to work better than Calpol, plus Nelson's teething crystals - if only to calm her down. They're sweet too so it can make make for a well-timed distraction.

She's 15 months and has just cut her 10th tooth, meaning we're technically half way though. Phew! We do get a medal at the end, right?
