Pencil grip

DS is 5 and still can't hold his pencil properly! He holds it like you would a dart with all 4 fingers (iyswim)

at school his teacher makes him use a grip but he still does it his way. at home i can't get him to change.

he writes remarlably well considering but ultimately his writing is never going to improve beyond this.

Any suggestions as to how I can improve the grip?

Yea, pencil grip (try several and see which feels best) and keep encouraging. Has your ds got lax finger joints (bendy)? Sometimes this grip aids stability or develops when the child has been prompted to write from an early age. My dss has this pencil grip and her writing is perfect and she can write at speed! So don't worry.
