My normally lovely 7 yo DS threw a wobbler on Sunday that scared me! His Dad accidentally knocked over his pile of Star Wars Force Attax cards (more precious than gold) and he went berserk! Screamed "you bastard...several times, threw all the cushions and anything else he could find, around the room...stormed off red and shaking!! When I asked him where he had heard the word bastard, he told me that he'd watched fawlty towers at his Grandad's and heard Mr Fawlty say it when he was angry! He later appologised, but still insists that his Dad knocked the cards over on purpose...!!! phew

Hmmm I'd nip this in the bud before he realises he wont get punished for swearing at dad or throwing things around. But it obviously meant a lot to him.

He needs to know that you won't tolerate a repeat of the behaviour or a repeat of the bad language. Otherwise he'll just think it is an acceptable way to express your frustrations.

Can you suggest a different way he could let his feelings out if this sort of thing happens again?

I don't think you need a sanction for this occasion but he ought to be aware that now he knows it's unacceptable there will be next time.
