How much hair does your 2yr old have?

Just that really. Dd will be 2 on the 27th and still has the same amount some babies are born with. It's definitely thickening and darkening and she can just about get away with a hair slide on one side but it falls out easily. So many of her friends have pigtails already! :-(

My 4 next month dd has got thick chin length curls. On her second birthday she didn't have Any hair to put a clip in never mind have one fall out'

youbethemummylion · 13/05/2012 08:06

My just turned two year old boy had shoulder length hair, if you pulled it straight that is as it was very curly! He now has it very short as he kept getting mistaken for a girl!

Lozza70 · 13/05/2012 08:07

When mine was 2 he had never had a haircut as nothing there to cut. First trim was at 2 and a half and second just before 3. Has to get hair cut every 8 weeks now and he is 3 and a half. I think lack of hair early on shows as strong, thick hair later.

Loads. Full head. But he was born with thick dark hair and apart from the bald patch they get from lying on the floor, it's never stopped growing.

headfairy · 13/05/2012 08:45

Lots but it's very fine and blonde... It's in a bob at the moment. She's 2.4 (second pic on profile was taken in Jan and is pretty much what her is like now)

TeWiDoesTheHulaInHawaii · 13/05/2012 08:46

DD was like this, it grew a lot more from 2.5 but only to shoulder length. I've just given her her first proper cut at 3 - a cropped pixie length cut to get rid of the baby hair which was in bad condition.

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 13/05/2012 08:47

Mine had no hair to speak of until 3.

Now has lovely blonde hair but she looked like a boy for a v. Long time.

workshy · 13/05/2012 08:54

DD1 had long thick hair at 2 that was a nightmare to get her to sit still so I could prevent her leaving the house looking like a scarecrow

DD2 had a tuft on the top that you could put a baby bobble in -that was is

she now has long flowing hair that is very thick and wavy

brightonbleach · 13/05/2012 10:03

mine had so much hair that nurses were coming into the ward to see him - big black spiked up hair on a newborn, weird!! then it all fell out at about 5m and grew back thick and blonde. odd things, babies. He 2 and a half now and has had to have a haircut every 2weeks as it grows so quickly, its so thick he hates having it brushed but he'd look like a moptop scarecrow if you didnt. He never had 'baby hair'! they're all so, so different arent they? a pal's little boy is 3 and only just getting beyond a tiny wisp of blonde hair on the top of his head, so cute.

brightonbleach · 13/05/2012 10:04

PS I had long hair when I was born tho, so I think some things are genetic - you could plait my hair right down my back at 1month, I've seen the pics! And now I have enough hair for 5 people, a right pain to look after.

CecilyP · 13/05/2012 10:08

DS didn't get hair until late. Looked like he had a crew cut between one and 2 and, between 2 and 3 just had fine blond wispy hair. Finally had his first hair cut at 4. After that , he just had normal blond hair.

FiveHoursSleep · 13/05/2012 10:11

Mine had varying amount at 2 but DD2, now 8 with lovely thick hair, had nothing but a little bumfluff until she was almost three.
I remember when she was about 2 when a very nice lady came over to me in town, patted me on the arm and started going on about what a shame it was. I bristled abit until I realised she thought DD2 had cancer, so sat there while she told me about her DDs treatment at the same age. The little girl had died so I didn't feel I could tell her DD wasn't actually sick.

SpagboLagain · 13/05/2012 10:17

DS1 was a very bald baby. Now at 2.6 he has never had a haircut. The front is still very short, the back is longer and curly but still above collar line, all very blonde and very fine. It started growing more at about 2yrs.

DS2 was born with lots of dark curls which he still has at 17wks. It is longer at the front than DS1s.

Don't worry, they all get it at different rates :)

Rindercella · 13/05/2012 10:26

DD2 now has very short cropped hair as she got hold of some scissors las week and did a very good job of removing half the hair on her head. I had to cut off the other half I now have an Afro in a bag as I don't know what to do with it and can't bring myself to throw it away!

OP please don't worry, hair will come. One of DD1's friends had very little hair until she was about 3. Now she has beautiful long blonde hair (she's nearly 5). Once it started to grow it seemed to get very long very quickly.

salvadory · 13/05/2012 10:30

I am in the same position as you dd1 is 2.4 and doesn't have enough hair for even a clip to go into. Everyone thinks she's a boy and to make matters worse the way it grows over her forehead looks like we've cut in a straight line, so people assume that not only do we have a boy but we also scalp him. I know there are much worse things to worry about but it doesn't stop me wishing she had more hair.

I can't wait til she has some but all these tales of babies who don't get hair til they're 3 make me a little :(
You're not alone although bald toddlers are definitely in the minority.

ConstantCraving · 13/05/2012 15:15

My DD 2.8 has short blonde wispy baby hair still - starting to thicken up a bit and just touching the nape of her neck. She refuses hairslides or hairbands too. DS at the same age had lovely thick dark hair which needed regular cuts.
