What are your best "unofficial' milestones for your baby/toddler?

I am very proud of the fact that my 6 month old can locate and grab his 'bits' within two seconds of me removing his nappy. It may not be in any of the official milestones but I reckon it shows impressive dexterity :o

What are other MN's favorite milestones that may not make it into the baby books but still make us all very proud. x

keithlemonsbackdoors · 12/05/2012 22:08

My 2.5 yr old has just started blaming the dog when he's pooed his nappy ("No poo Mummy. Dog farty"). I am so very proud Grin

DonkeyTeapot · 12/05/2012 22:15

DD is nearly 10mo, she does the open mouth kiss too. Sometimes I even get tongue.

AliMonkey · 12/05/2012 22:28

Definitely the first "I love you Mummy" from DS, age almost 3 I think - he was slow in talking so to hear him say that with no prompting just melted my heart.

splashymcsplash · 12/05/2012 23:15

My dd learnt to swear around 18m. No idea where she got it from, but it is terribly cute!

mariasalome · 13/05/2012 00:47

Chasing his big brother onto the football pitch and trying to get the ball, whilst (possibly randomly) shouting 'mine', 'kick' and 'goal'.

Not sure when the first time was, but he's still only 18 months and for some months I've had to make sure he's very firmly strapped into the buggy whenever we take ds1 to footie Blush

First serious injury to DM!

Lift toddler DS out of bath. DS is tired. DS lets head drop forward. Catches DM's bridge of nose with forehead. I nearly dropped the little bugger darling back in. Blood everywhere, which was hilarious apparently. DS uninjured.

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 13/05/2012 19:02

DS1's first looking out for his bro'... He was just 2, his bro' a few days old... I had started to run a bath, then forgotten about it, DS2 was in his moses basket in the room below, and DS1 came running into the kitchen, shouting urgently 'mummy, its raining indoors on DB!'

ForeverBusy · 13/05/2012 19:46

DD2 could blow her own nose at 9 months!

dlady · 13/05/2012 20:30

My dd1 had speech delay, she's 13 now and speaks fine. The few words she said didn't make a lot of sense. When she was about 3 I was saying the usual "if you're naughty Father Christmas won't come". She then went and picked the phone up and said "Kickkick (Christmas), presents peez at gannys house". The longest sentence she had said, I laughed till I cried, so sweet.

skybluepearl · 13/05/2012 22:58

The time ''Fu*k'' popped out of my mouth and my 11 month old said ''quack quack''

skybluepearl · 13/05/2012 22:58

He thought I'd said duck

Empusa · 14/05/2012 00:43

6 weeks old and DS pulled DH's tshirt towards him and vomitted neatly into it Grin

sagenod · 14/05/2012 04:54

16 month DS2 picking me a flower in the garden and actually giving it to me instead of trying to eat it.

And today, helping DP to clear the table on his own initiative! :)

milkyjo · 14/05/2012 14:43

The time DS (now 17 months) was in the garden eating raisins and I discovered he was eating rabbit droppings!!! Also the word TITS was repeated over and over again, usually in public, to this day I still don't know what this means! Recently, he is very good at cleaning (with baby wipes) and I plan to keep this going for as long as possible - a la Annie!

JoInScotland · 14/05/2012 20:56

Today, we added some hilarious development "milestones". DP was getting him ready for bed, and taking his trousers off. DS (nearly 28 months) said, "Don't take my trousers off!" and pulled them back on. (This exchange was repeated several times). He's never shown much interest in taking clothes off except shoes, and we are trying to lead him towards potty training so hurrah! He can pull his trousers off!

He also said he was going to change his own nappy. Sadly, that didn't happen.

I sing a song while I brush his teeth, and he seems to know that I don't have "Mr Magnolia" memorised and asks for that one. Trying to wriggle out of it, I said, "How about.... The Runaway Train?" To which he replied, "How about.... Mr Magnolia?" with the same pause and tone exactly that I had used. We fell about laughing. I tried, "How about.... Nellie the Elephant?" He said, "How about.... Mr Magnolia?" When I had recovered my compusure, I "tried my best" to sing Mr Magnolia and another phrase entered the annals of our family history.

GnocchiNineDoors · 14/05/2012 22:06

When I feed DD I use a muslin afterwards to wipe her face. She's now getting to the point where she takes it off me and smooshes it up against her face in a vague attempt to clean it. Well today, she smooshed in in her face and then in mine Grin think I might have needed a wash or something.

She's also started reaching out with both hands and holding my face. Soooo sweet.

Consort · 15/05/2012 02:07

DD (4 months) has just today learned (somehow) to pinch. She's taken to doing it to my arm fat when I BF her. Ouch! And yet oddly proud of her all the same.

Thatisnotitatall · 15/05/2012 09:21

I've got a new one - today in the car ds2 (12.5 months) were in the car alone; his seat is behind me and I can't see him when driving. He was very quiet so for some nonsensical reason I called out "DS2 are you asleep?" and he fake snored! Definitely! I laughed and said "DS2 are you snoring?" and he giggled... 2 mins later I asked him again and he did it again! He doesn't have many words yet but shows how much he understands (I think) - genius or what :o

DonkeyTeapot · 16/05/2012 15:55

Yesterday when I said "how big is DD?" she reached her arms up tall, all by herself :)

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 16/05/2012 17:12

TINA yes definitely genius, especially, if, as I suspect from your name, you are reading him TCITH Grin

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 16/05/2012 17:13

okay sorry, mis-read your name TINIAT - forget that, but he is still a genius!
