What are your best "unofficial' milestones for your baby/toddler?

I am very proud of the fact that my 6 month old can locate and grab his 'bits' within two seconds of me removing his nappy. It may not be in any of the official milestones but I reckon it shows impressive dexterity :o

What are other MN's favorite milestones that may not make it into the baby books but still make us all very proud. x

I loved the "kiss" milestone too beela and the fact the DS only "kissed" (aka licked) me for a while Grin

A recent milestone for me was DS, when wanting me, instead of just lying there and crying, actively trying to commando crawl over to me and into my lap (I was sitting on the floor).

LittleWhiteWolf · 10/05/2012 15:25

Don't know if this counts, but today had my first "both children need all their clothes stripping off and changing at the same time" moment. DD is 2.10 and had got yogurt all over her jumper and trousers. DS is 4 weeks old and managed to leak through his vest and babygro.

NeedToSleepZZZ · 10/05/2012 15:33

Nose picking and stripping check Grin

The first time he learnt to share, especially seeing as he even chewed up the biscuit before offering it to me Wink

TheCinnamonGiraffe · 10/05/2012 15:35

First 'floater' in the bath.

First 'mummy I have an stuck up my nose'.

First joint telling off... x2 DS's are 18months apart and have just had their first 'what are you two up too???'.

BalloonSlayer · 10/05/2012 15:38

For slightly older children.

The milestone of "realising they feel sick and are, in fact, about to puke and getting themselves to the bathroom" is one that merits a "Congratulations!" greetings card, in my book.

Girls who work out to hold their long hair out of the way deserve an extra-sparkly card.

NeedToSleepZZZ · 10/05/2012 15:55

BalloonSlayer, I cannot wait for the first one. DS is 15 months, do you think I have long to wait?

Nancy66 · 10/05/2012 16:13

Two year old doing puppy dog eyes and pleading 'ohhhhhh peeeeeeese'
when i say she can't do/have something.

lovepizza · 10/05/2012 16:13

first bad attitude milestone at 2 yrs 11 months - telling me " No [I'm not cleaning my teeth], watch my lips!!!"

BeaWheesht · 10/05/2012 16:39

Their first lie. Dd (19m) pulled all the wipes out today and spread them liberally around the lving room, when I asked her who did it she said 'ds' and pointed to his photo on the wall. Problem is he was at school. When I reminded her of that she folded her arms, stamped her foot, lowered her eyebrows and said 'NO'.

I laughed

beela · 10/05/2012 17:06

Nancy I am putty in DS's hands when he looks at me and says 'peeeeeese'!

naturalbaby · 10/05/2012 17:12

Learning how to open the stair gate - ds2 is 2yrs 9months and has just figured out how to squeeze the top and bottom button at the same time.

First tantrum. Can't remember when but ds3 is 15months and has been doing this for a few months. It started with a full on body throw on the floor resulting in a bashed head so has now been modified to just throwing whatever item is in his hand then stamping his foot and throwing it again for added effect if I'm taking no notice.

First dance - I think it was around 13months standing, waving arms and bouncing up and down to DH singing.

ToriaPumpkin · 10/05/2012 17:14

Blowing raspberries was a fabulous one. He did it in Starbucks. With a mouthful of porridge. My (childless) friend who was in the line of fire did not find it nearly as cute as I did Grin

Today we managed to make the transition from me putting lumps of fruit in his mouth to him picking them up and putting them in his own mouth. Up until now he's been perfectly capable of picking them up but would then just stare at them and hold them out to me and wait for me to take it from him and shove it in myself.

I think my absolute favourite though has to be when he became aware of his own burps. DH has always done the last bottle before bed and we were away with friends when he was 10 weeks old. One day I was having a coffee while he fed him and I looked up just in time to catch Grin

SilentBoob · 10/05/2012 17:38

9wk old dd recognised her Daddy yesterday. First she heard his voice and did shocked flappy arms, and then when he leaned in to give her a kiss she squeaked and grinned. Heart melt.

Gingerhan · 10/05/2012 17:53

The first time (at about 2) that DS yelled DH's Christian name, following it with rolled eyes and a shake of the head when he didn't answer quickly enough! I wish I looked so cute when nagging.

Meglet · 10/05/2012 19:03

When they are able to recognise and say 'marmite'. I coached mine every breakfast time.

InNeedofSomeSleep · 10/05/2012 19:07

Had to be when dd pointed at dh and said dada at 10 months. Grin

DameFlatYouLent · 10/05/2012 19:13

Yesterday DS (18m) did a dramatic in-breath as if about to sneeze, and as I shielded myself he sniggered - first fake sneeze!!

Since about 14m he's enjoyed tickling his and our feet whilst chanting "tickertickertickerticker"

Our first visit by the police - DD was 9 months old and really into pressing buttons, i had left her alone with the house phone thinking the receiver would be too heavy. Nope.

Next day a police man comes knocking at the door telling us they received a 999 call from our address and heard screaming before the line went dead - DD singing i expect Grin

Poor DP, the policeman gave him a right look and took all his details. I had to show him DD asleep in her pushchair to prove we had a baby and it wasnt us.

happydotcom · 10/05/2012 19:44

DS at 9 months had his first tantrum involving back arching and screaming when I was trying to put his coat on!!

Laurarj84 · 10/05/2012 19:47

My DD 22m, ran after me as I took her empty bottle back onto the kitchen with her arms flapping above her head and shouting "Oi! Cheeky monkey!!!". Had to laugh!

Laughing babies are just fabulous, aren't they mavis :)

sayjay · 10/05/2012 20:33

Mavis Smile
My Ds is on the autistic spectrum. One of my proudest moments EVER was his first lie (I didn't do it)
Much excitement and ringing round of relatives was involved!

MiauMau · 10/05/2012 20:40

First time properly giggling at a repetitive motion. For some reason ds finds the words "hello baby" absolutely hilarious.
Also, first tickle. At least I think that he was feeling ticklish.
DS will be 11 weeks old tomorrow so, it's a world filled with unofficial milestones nearly everyday :o
