What jobs do you give your 9 year old to do round the house? Do they earn pocket money?

Pocket mponey not related to 'jobs'.

DS is 9 and does whatever I ask him to do: tidies his room, hoovers, dusts, takes out the rubbish, does the recycling, puts a wash on, hangs up wet clothes, folds and puts away laundry, lays/clears table, helps a lot with the cooking etc. etc.

I do pay him to clean the windows, because I would pay someone else if he didn't. He gets 20p per pane (inside and out) and I taught him to do it properly before he took on the job. It's up to him when he does it though, but he can't do it more than once a week and I inspect the windows before paying him. Like a real job.

ds is 8 and can:

keeps own room tidy
cleans laminate floor in own room with damp cloth
dusts own room/shared room's (including skirting boards)
strips/makes beds
help with loading washing machine/hangs up wet/puts away dry clothes/matches socks
empties/fills dishwasher
puts out plastic recycling
lay/clears table (including pouring out soft drinks)
polishes wooden dining table and chairs
cleans glass on internal doors
polishes own school shoes (sometimes my boots if he's in the mood)
any spider/bug removing duties as required Smile
other odd jobs

tries to but doesnt hoover carpet yet (dyson seems to be too heavy for him) but can use attachments on hard floors/stairs. doesnt cook yet I'm still a bit worried about it.

Sounds a lot but he doesn't do everything every week and we have a mad hour or so at the weekend when his dad is working and we make a list and work through lots quickly together scoring it off as it gets done - he actually enjoys the responsibility of it/doing his bit and its not related to any pocket money.

It is getting harder now the weather is a bit better and he wants to go out though!
