Hi, my dd 18 months has never been a good sleeper but naps now hav become a nightmare.

Shes in her own bed & so keeps getting out evertime i put her down. I then (although feel so bad) decided to tuck her in and close her bedroom door all the way.

Now she gets out of bed & crys by the door, when its quiet i go in to check on her and twice now shes fallen asleep on the floor. I dont dare pick her up as shes wakes with evey little noise/movement. I cover her with a balnket, but feel so bad!

What should i do???

Put her back in her cot?

FrannyandZooey · 12/02/2006 13:40

Blimey, why did you get her out of the cot? Have you got another baby or something? I don't see how you could possibly stop a child of this age from getting out of bed, so I guess you will either have to put up with the guilt or put her bakc in a cot.

Put her back in a cot, she is too young to be in a bed if she keep climbing out. Can she get back into the bed on her own?

i would try and pick her up and put her back to bed. you dont know til you try.

have you got a bedguard? my dd1 went into a big girls bed when she was 18 mnths and we put a bed guard on, sort of halfway between a cot and bed we kind of thought

hi,

yes she has a bed gaurd, she also is in her own bed as she climbs out of her cot.

She has got back in to her bed many times on her own its its only been the past few days shes ended up on the floor.

I was thinking of maybe putting the matress on the floor??

I think that's a good idea, Pretty, I know Montessori actually recommends children having a bed on the floor so they can be more independent and get in and out without your help. Hope it works out.

my son is the same he is 2 .4 I put his cot mattress on the floor by his bed and he like sleeping on that with his cot duvet he ocasionally sleeps in his bed now but I think its a comfort thing

My son's 2.4 and has been the same since he was 18 months and we had to take the side of his cot off (kept climbing out).
We now let him fall asleep on the floor if that's what he wants to do and then scoop him back once he's been asleep for about 20 mins (when he seems to be in a deep sleep and therefore least likely to wake).
I went through a stage of listening out for him climbing out of the cot-bed and intercepting him but it only seemed to prolong the amount of time it took for him to get to sleep and over that 6-week period he didn't appear to be changing his habits any either!
I do try and dress him a bit more warmly than I would if he stayed in bed all night, though.
