Breast development in 9.5 year old daughter

My 9.5 year old daughter seems to be starting to develop breast buds but unfortunately only on one side. It seemed to start around Christmas but there is no sign of the other side growing yet. She is quite embarrassed about it and refuses to see the doctor but I was wondering if this is normal or whether I should just drag her to the doctors?

Thanks

I wouldn't take her to the doctor's about it just now, it's normal and they will probably even out as she grows. Maybe buy her some new tops with ruffle fronts to disguise unevenness, as she grows a padded bra with the pad removed from the 'big' side usually works well.

There are some websites showing "normal" boobs, you might want to have a google and show her that women's breasts come in lots of shapes and sizes and they're all "normal" - apart from yours she has probably only seen images of 'perfect'/silicone breasts.

Some women do have a breast that doesn't develop at all or is much smaller than the other. Surgery is an option to even them up but no reputable surgeon would look at her until she is 18 anyway. IF this is a problem for her as she reaches adulthood she may be able to get surgery on the NHS, though many PCTs no longer fund this type of thing.

I remember having this as a child. One side started growing before the other, but then went away again before they both started developing a bit later.

My mum took me to the GP, but if your dd doesn't want to go, you could always make an appointment for yourself and go and discuss it with the GP to get their opinion.
