weird boy or male obsessive streak?

DS (3.5) gets himself in a state if he can't carry out one of his current obsessions: "win" upstairs (means going up first, very slowly no matter that i just want to quickly dash up to collect jumper/shoes or whatever as we're going out); open the door when people knock; say certain words he knows by heart in his stories; stop it getting dark outside; climb into car seat himself--he seems to get a new "thing" every few weeks and if it doesn't go his way scream and whinge about it for at least 30 minutes though sometimes much much longer. Its a minefield. Is he just trying to control his world, is he a freak or is his some kind of early male obsessional behaviour?

think it's normal. not much fun for you though!

my ds is 3.7mths and i have to do certain things with him, the following month he has forgotten about it but then he might get obsessive about something else, i think its just trying to see how far they can push there boundaries

i remember a time when i wouldnt dare get my towel to dry myself after a shower, he HAD to do it for me, if i picked it off the floor to dry myself and he came in half way through he would go absolutely ballistic!....he dont do it no more now, so like i say, i think its just to see how far he can push it and what power he thinks he can have...clever little things at that age arent they!

may be that's ita power thing. it works i am scared of tripping the wire and setting off screaming! As for not much funi think what i hate most of all; i have lost all sense of humour about itmaybe cos i worry he's going to be completely anal. As long as you think it's normalthen i can repeat "it is a phase. it will pass. it is a phase. it will pass"

My brother used to be like this, but I am afraid he had a slight OCD now, at 20. Not that they are necessarily linked.

Normal. DS2 is like this (aged just 4) Competitive about everything, but saying "i'm going to win" does get him moving if he;s refusing to do something.

DS1 is severely autistic with very strong obsessions and compulsions- it's completely different.
