When to stop bed time bottle

My son is 26 months old & still has a bottle of milk at bed time, at any other time he drinks out of a sippy cup. Obviously I don't want him having bottles forever but is there ever a good time to stop? We're hoping to move next month so I was thinking about waiting until he's settled in the new house, but wonder if I ought to have finished with bottles long ago?

You can stop whenever you like :)

Maybe the new house is a good tactic though - 'we drink our milk out of a cup in this house!' Etc...

We made the switch from bottle to cup at bedtime at around 21 months I think. Mainly because we were staying with my SIL and forgot to take a bottle with us. We were in a different environment and DS was slightly out of his routine anyway - so he hardly noticed. When we got home, we just continued with the cup and he was fine!

DS normally quite resistant to change by the way, so I had been dreading making the switch!

DS2 still has a bedtime bottle and he is 26 months. I don't intend to stop until he wants to. He's my second and last baby and I don't want him to grow up too quick Grin

My son had a bottle until he was four years and 1 month old. He loved his bottle, and would always have one before bed.
DH and I often discussed HOW ON EARTH we would ever get him to stop.
Then, the week before starting Reception, he took his bottle and threw it in the bin!
Not a word about bottles since.

To me that proved that they can stop easily, as long as THEY are ready.

we stopped bottles around 1 year old - they still had milk but out of a cup instead

Oh I am glad I'm not the only one still giving their dc a bottle past the age of 2. DD is 27 months and still loves her bedtime bottle so I'm loathe to get rid of it just yet. With ds we took him to the Disney store on holiday when he was 2.9 and he chose whatever cup he wanted, and that became his milk cup. Now aged 4.7 he's actually a bit meh about bedtime milk.

Well, I was going to say mine stopped using at bottle around their first birthdays.....

headfairy · 23/04/2012 19:32

backforgood I'm sure that's much more preferable than the ridiculous levels of negotiation we had to go through.

Now to get him to stop using a dummy at night Blush
