17 month old headbanger. What do I do?

Ds has this new habit of getting down on his hands and knees and butting the floor with his head. He does this if there is any upset or anyone disagreeing with him. He also hits his head on any surface including me or will hit himself on the head. it is really horrible to watch. I was trying to ignore it and not reward the behaviour with attention but today I have asked him to stop it. Not effective really.
Does anyone have experience of this or any tips to nip it in the bud? Or do I need to just wait for this phase to pass?

TIA

Same thing here. My 16 month DS is doing the same thing with such force it's scary the advice we have had is to just ignore it or if we are really concerned to move him to the middle of the room and walk away. It's apparently very common and will just pass. xx

I have been having similar behaviour from 16mo dd, it freaked me out at first, as you say I found it quite distressing- I've tended to ignore it and it does seem to be getting less frequent. And am going for a sort of firm 'stop' approach from now on.. glad it appears to be common have read similar on here previously aswell so we not alone!

Don't worry - it is completely normal. My DS did it for a little while and then stopped and I know from others on here that they had the same experience.

Thanks for replies! I think my big sister was a headbanger so I had heard of it before. I will try to ignore so this will be hopefully a short phase. What a tinker!
