my ten month old is biting me during breastfeeding

My ten month old began biting a few days ago during breastfeeding. Initially it was at the end of the feeding but now it's at the beggining of the feeding as well. I tried pulling him gently off my breast and said "you are not ready for nursing." But he just gives me a big grin and does it at the next feed anyway. Any advice?

My lo nips going on when she is just about to get teeth - when they come through her latch goes back to normal again - could it be this or are they purposefully biting?

My lo is 10mo with 7 teeth btw

Is he teething?
If not, you need to nip this in the bud (no pun intended!) or it will put an end to bf for you - my DD did this very occasionally (usually when teething) and I said NO very loudly, broke the latch and stopped the feed. She quickly learnt that biting meant the end of a feed. I would not then recommence the feed until some time later. It worked for us. She stopped biting.

he's teething. i give him teething toys to bite as well. however, he seems to have turned biting my nipples into a game.

Some helpful advice here.

What worked for me was pushing the baby's face into my breast when they did this, so they opened mouth to breathe. As I write this, it sounds a bit cruel, but they were never distressed and soon got the hint.

FantasticDay - I think I sound like the mean mummy with my technique! I couldn't help the loud NO though, your way sounds a bit kinder. My poor DD always looked rather put out.

Does he defiantly want a feed when he is biting? My DD started biting when she no longer needed that feed - I no longer feed her during the day now. Otherwise it could be that he is getting used to his teeth or has more coming. I would unlatch him until he understands that if he bites he won't get milk.

Beamur I did an accidental "NO" once and got laughed at. Hmm

DD bit me for a while when she was teething at around 8mo, I said No and put her down on the floor, then would try feeding her later. I am very fearful of her top teeth coming through as the biting was agonising with only bottom teeth! She stopped it pretty quickly thank goodness as otherwise I think it would have been the end of bf'ing for us.
