Rage in a 3yo

My DD is 3.5 and rages for much of the day. If something very small goes other than how she wants it, or we try to help her with something she's doing she screams and wails for a long time, sometimes hitting out at us and throwing things. She's lovely a lot of the time, but I am finding this rage quite wearing, and I am also worried that it often seems to be that she's tired or hungry, even on days when we haven't been doing that much (and I do give her food Grin).

I try to just wait it out and ask her what it is that's gone wrong, or what she wants to do. Do other people's 3yos do this? How do you handle it, not so much in the moment as in a long term way in terms of helping her to accept frustrations? Would you be worried about tiredness to the point of fury in a 3yo, or is that normal?
