Teething at nearly 3yrs???

My son is 2yrs 9mths. He has been dribbling a lot this week and now within the last two hours has been putting his finger in his mouth saying "Ow, hurt" and whimpering. From what I understand he is up to date on which teeth he should have. Does anyone have experience of this from a child of similar age?

The last baby molar teeth can come through at any time between 2 and 3 years

You could try counting his teeth. If he already has his 20 milk teeth, he is unlikely to be teething. If he only has 16-19 then the last molars could indeed be coming in.

It could indeed be his last molars, or he could have a hole/infection. Is he eating well otherwise? Providing he has a reasonable diet, I'd think more likely to be tooth eruptions..

That is late, but were his other teeth late so to speak?
DD first tooth was 12 weeks so she's early.

Mine always dribble with tonsilitis.

my dd is 3.3 and still doesn't have her last molars; asked dentist who said it's late, but nothing to worry about
