Screaming when she poos (22mth old)

My DD3 has often seemed to find pooing quite uncomfortable - not tummy squirmy or constipated, but the actual action of pooing itself - and recently it's taken on epic proportions - she screams like someone is torturing her - and she's usually such a placid, happy child. We've just started potty training and she really wants to go to the toilet now to poo - hates going in her nappy - but just screams and screams as the poo comes out.
It's heart-breaking.
Her poo is occasionally hard, but even when it's soft she still screams. The only time in the last 2 weeks it didn't seem to hurt was when she pooed in the bath - not a technique I'd like to try daily!!
What am I doing wrong- is it her diet? - or could there be something physically wrong? - is she going to end up phobic? Aarghh...

Hi, my ds had the same from 6 months. After several trips to the dr they put him on movicol which worked like magic. Basically he was constipated though his poo was very soft. He strained too much and developed anal fissures which would be extremely painful when pooing though to all intents what he produced looked normal. Don't put off going to the dr, I did and felt terrible when he was diagnosed as I thought it was psychological! Poor wee guy. He's absolutely fine now and has been off medication for ages.

This happend to my DD for quite a while too. You need to get her something to soften her poo's as she will become scared of releasing her bowels. I used calfig, a laxative made from figs that is available in boots. Its been about 6months since she last had a problem. She used to scream so badly it made me cry.

thank you. Sounds like a GP trip is in order... been in hosp with her this wk (asthma) so drs will be sick of the sight of me soon :)

my dd had a lot of constipation when she was about 7 months old, so much so that she used to scream and bleed :( Dr gave her lactulose and now I give her weetabix every morning which helps no end.
