How often do your kids have sickness bugs?

Is 6 times in a year normal for some? Ok at other times, but sick for a couple of days then ok again, until the next time.

They've both only been sick once or twice ever (11 &13) so I'm not sure what the norm is. Have you just one child or more? Could it be an allergy to a certain food?

There's 3 kids, wondering if its a bug they pick up at school, then pass on to each other as they all get it one after another, but they seem to get them a lot

Once a year IF that.

Six times in a year sounds a lot to me. Mine are 8 and 9 and I can only remember one bout of sickness since they started Primary school.

Chavmum Some children vomit when they have a cold/sore throat but not a tummy bug so it seems as if they have more sickness bugs than they actually do, iyswim ... My DS used to throw up every time he had a cold / sore throat, until he was about 5 or 6 (something to do with kids getting swollen glands in their tummies when they have colds according to my GP, and also can be due to swallowing excess saliva / mucus when they have a cold ....)

It's shit isn't it?!

When DS1 was in nursery he got 4 stomach bugs in six months. He missed so much mursery and I missed so much work that I left work. Then he was ok, and when he started school he got three the first year, none the second year, and one this year. DS2 is hardly ever ill, and got it maybe twice since he was born and he is now 5. I think some children are just more vulnerable to it.

DS1 had loads in the first 2.5 years, posted on here about it. It got better all of a sudden to be honest, he did have alot of antibiotics during that time and i think this lowered his resistance to tummy bugs, had been well for the last year with no problems at all.

Have you thought about probiotics - never did try it with DS1 but someone suggested it

dribbleface · 28/03/2012 20:56

Also DS1 had severe bug at 20 weeks and it seemed to be his weakness after that (not counting the chest infections and asthma Hmm), my brother was the same, had severe bug at 18 months and has suffered with tummy bugs since

I can remember one with DD1 when she was a toddler (she is 5.4 now) and i actually can't remember any with DD2 (3.7)

ragged · 28/03/2012 21:00

6 in a year is a bit high, 2-4 per year in toddler-y1 age, quite possibly. Been ages since we've had one so I fear we're overdue now!

QED · 28/03/2012 21:00

DD has had one sickness bug when she was about 20 months old where she was being sick continuously for about 48 hours. She and DS have had other times when one or other has been sick as an one-off maybe about 3 or 4 times between them (they are 8 and 6)

notforlong · 28/03/2012 21:35

Are you sure it is a bug. Could be abdominal migraine. Ds gets them related to lactose intolerance.
