Night time dryness - am I mad?

DS is 5 (just). He is lovely but really pretty lazy and will often wee in his nappy in the mornings because he can't be arsed to go to the loo. I'm fairly sure he wakes in the night when he needs a wee because he quite often comes into me and I can smell that he's just done a wee. So I've put him to bed without a nappy on. I'll leave the hall light on and the lid of the loo up. I have a spare duvet/pillow/sheet at the ready and another mattress protector.

Am I doing the right thing?? Or should I wait until he tells me he doesn't want to wear nappies at night any more?

You can only try and see what happens

SparkyMcSparrow · 23/03/2012 22:52

I 'just did it' with ds not expecting it to work. It did!

You could be waiting forever for him to say he doesn't want nappies anymore.

A friend of mine did this, she said they had maybe 2 nights of accidents, her DS was dry after that.
Good luck.
Currently my DD (3) is getting up at 5.40 most mornings and needing help with a poo....

DowagersHump · 23/03/2012 22:55

Thank you - that's encouraging. I guess the worst that can happen is that I find he actually has no idea when he's weeing at night.

Fingers crossed! I will report back :)

Oh god Pepper that sounds grim :(

He always gets up to do a poo and goes to the bathroom on his own so I know he's capable of that bit

DD1 was dry at night from when I forgot to put a nappy on her and put her straight in bed when she fell asleep after a bath... You never know till you try!

DowagersHump · 24/03/2012 08:32

Oh well, that wasn't a success :o He doesn't wake up when he wees. Now I know I suppose!

Oh dear :) Well, you're right, it is the only way to find out!

I would perhaps give it another go tonight though, as it's the weekend.

SparkyMcSparrow · 24/03/2012 09:56

Yes I would give it one more go tonight. You never know! Maybe wake him up once and ask him if he needs to go?

Good luck
