My 22 month old son's behaviour - tantrum or actual pain?

I am at a loss with what's wrong with my 22 months old DS. He caught a bug with a temp from my DH over the weekend and was sick when we were out on Sunday. He has not had a temp since but has been extremely unsettled since. Unsettled meaning constant screaming, crying, writhing on the floor and being generally very bad tempered as if something was really bugging him. He sleeps very well - we had two nights of 7 to 7 in a row with long naps. Yesterday he even put himself to sleep on the couch while the lights were on, unheard of!
We will have an appointment with the gp this afternoon but just wanted to know if this could be a normal phase at this age.
Thanks

I would say it was him feeling unwell. Have you given him painkillers?

Ear infection.. that's a possibility!
I gave him some nurofen this morning and calpol just now. It hasn't helped amazingly well, maybe a bit. He just seems so angry with me and everything but I suppose if he is in pain this would be understandable. Thanks a lot for your responses.

He sounds if he is still feeling unwell. Not all illness involves having a temperature.

I agree that its probably an ear infection, DD1 got that and after her fever went, she woke up a couple of mornings later just screaming and throwing things at me - the dr immediately said that her ears were very inflamed and the drums may burst. Your poor DS :(

How did you get on at the Drs?

vez123 · 21/03/2012 18:28

Thanks for asking. Doc couldn't find anything. He may just be a little unwell since his illness. I hope he'll improve soon because I cannot take the screaming too much longer..

Sounds like plenty of painkillers, rest and cuddles are in order then.

Hope he, and you, feel better soon.
