Help! 6 month old wakes every 30 minutes and scratches face until he is fed back to sleep

My DS is 6 months old and wakes every 30 minutes at night. He doesn't cry out but scratches his face causing it to bleed if I don't restrain him/slap on diprobase and immediately feed him back to sleep.
He has eczema and is very tall for his age (wears 12-18m clothes). The dr thinks he could be lactose intolerant etc causing eczema and he has nutrimigen2 formula.
Health visitor says I should feed him up on solids and use controlled crying but the damage he does to his face is awful so I haven't tried that yet. With all the feeding back to sleep he eats 8x 7oz bottles per day. 3 of those bottles are during the night in drubs and drabs every 30 min!

Any suggestions?
Ps I have a dd aged 2.2 and I'm poorly with exhaustion

Should have said also that scratch nits don't help because he uses the back of his hand and scratch nits give him more friction and worse damage to faceSad

How about swaddling ?

DeepThought · 21/03/2012 13:28

Very soft long socks up to and over elbows

Have you tried scratch sleeves

They're silky so might stop the damage by friction

My dd suffers too but is currently not waking as often as that, you have my sympathy though

He's usually stripped down to his best because the heat that the eczema generates makes him hot and itchy. He's also close to crawling so I'm not sure he would appreciate swaddling. I can try it though. Thanks for the suggestions and the links re the mit things.

Vest* not best. Sorry. Predictive text + tired mummy = sloppy mistakes

Thank you MegMogAndOwl (love the name by the way-and the books) I have followed your link and ordered the sleeves. He needs the 12-18 months ones because he's so massive. Grin
