have tried everything - naughty corner, withdrawal of toys/privileges, ignoring etc, but still the pesky child persists in spitting on the ground, on her bed. It drives me mad. I have told her that it's horrible/disgusting etc but this only seems to spur her on. Seriously, my fingers itch sometimes - not that I imagine a slap would work either, even if I would countenance it for a minute, which I wouldn't.

has she got a bad taste in her mouth? have you asked her why she is doing it?

There are a wide variety of parent-tested solutions at www.babycenter.com/400_how-can-i-stop-my-son-from-spitting_500160_0.bc
I wouldn't advocate all of them, but as I said, they are very varied, so I hope something among them is helpful to you.

missingmysleep she does quite often say she has a nasty taste in her mouth, but it's hard to tell whether she actually does, or whether she has realised that this is about the only acceptable justification. Sometimes she says she does it to be naughty. She is generally a fairly well behaved 3 year old

What could be causing a nasty taste?

sanity thanks - will look at that
