Have been told that my Ds has great difficulty controlling his oral musculature and that he could not elevate his tongue. We do not see therapist until next week and just wondered what this means in terms of how they can help

Not sure how old your ds is but we had great fun doing this with my dd (low oro muscle tone) at around 3 yrs onwards! DD couldn't elevate her tongue until over 3.5 yrs.

Yes - that link doesn't seem to work any more for some reason. Try googling Mr Tongue and try getting the doc that way - I can't link to it for some reason.

there are loads of exercise programmes to improve tongue mobility. Smile
be prepared for lots of practise at home! Grin

dd2 hasn't ever had lateral movement, but a couple of weeks ago has finally managed to get a bit of movement in one direction (but still not the other) woo hoo! (she's 8.5 Grin). we were told she wouldn't speak as her oromotor was so poor when she was a tot, but she is completley verbal. where there's a will, there's a way, and all that. our slts have always been fabulous. goo dluck for your appointment!

don't know how old ds is, but in addtion to the licking/ blowing exercises etc, dd2 had huge success with the nuffield dyspraxia programme. amazing improvement in clarity.
