6mo morning nap - how long?

Hi, Ds is teething a fair bit and his morning nap has shortened to 45min in the last couple of days. Just wondering (I can't remember) does this morning nap usually get shorter anyway? How long does yr 6mo sleep for in the morning?

He is just coming up for 25 weeks.

Thanks

Hah! My 6 month old sometimes naps, if he does it can be for 10 mins, 30 or an hour! Once, he napped for 2 hours and I didn't know what to do with myself. He's been like this from birth.

Oh, and he doesn't always nap in the afternoon either. Or sleep through the night.

Sorry, no help at all.

DD slept for anywhere between 45m and 2hrs at that age.

Ditto Greige

My dd, 6.5 months,is napping now after late breakfast because she napped earlier too. No idea when she might wake. In the mean time, I'm off to sleep too!

After 45 min, have u tried feeding him? I did this with dd last week as she woke from nap crying (unusual for her) gave her a breast-feed and she slept for another hour and a bit (bonus!)

Hi titferbrains ? My LO (7mths) sleeps for approx 2hrs in the morning.

How long did your DS sleep for before dropping to 45mins? Is his night sleep changing? Does he need help to settle (dummy, cuddles, etc) or does he self-settle when he rouses?

From my experience as a nanny and a night-nanny - at 6 months baby will drop from 3 to 2 naps a day of about 1.5 to 2hrs each.

he was doing about 1.5 hrs in the morning. seems he is struggling to stay aslpeep.

They're all different - my DD, 6.5 months, has 4 naps of around 30 minutes each, she can't stay awake more than 2 hours.

clabsyqueen · 29/02/2012 19:05

To add to the info... My 6 monther sleeps for 45 mins max usually 3 or 4 times a day. Can't awake for more than 2 hours but has the occasional dy when she'll sleep for 1.5 hours and then stay awake for 3 hours. I never know!

At that age, dd 1 had regularly spaced 45 min naps all through the day. Ds would usually have a long (2+ hour) nap in the morning and another couple of shorter lighter ones. Dd2 is 8 months and her pattern for last couple months has been long morning nap. The other two eventually went to afternoon nap of up to three hours, but this only happened after they were one. Hth.

Oh and I second the feeding idea-in fact this am, dd2 woke up when I transferred her from car at about 45 mins but I was able to feed her back to sleep (thank goodness-she and I both needed the sleep Wink)

My twins sleep anywhere from 40 mins to an hour and a half and go to sleep at any time from 8am to 10am - there doesn't seem to be any pattern!
