do many 5yo boys bite their nails to the quick?

My 5yo ds (Jan birthday) started school in August, then moved schools in October. He's settled now and won't be moving again. Other than that all is well/the usual. He started biting his nails last term in the midst of this, and it's ongoing and now a habit.

Should I be doing something about it? Is there anything I can do? Should I be worried? I feel like it's a sign of anxiety and I had hoped it would stop once he settled in.

DS2 started doing this when he moved up to yr1 - still does it, saves me cutting them I s'pose Wink. You can get some stuff from the chemist that you paint on that tastes gross or put plasters over the ends of all their fingers - but it's major hassle - be aware you need to watch out for worms .... Unfortunately my husband still bites his nails down to the quick at 47 so I'm not holding out too much hope!!!
