I have been weaning DS for a few weeks (since 5 months) I discussed it with the HV first and she agreed that being 18lbs, sitting unaided and keen to grab food and put it in his mouth he was ready. And it's been going well! I've stuck to 2x small meals per day of either apple pear, carrot, sw potato or parsnip-gradually adding more food but taking it slow.

In the past week he has started doing a poo at about 4am which wakes him up. Often I will change him and more will shoot out (going everywhere) at this point he is wide awake and I will feed him back to sleep but he can happily go from 7-7 without a feed so I'm only feeding him at this time to get him back to sleep.

Is this a common weaning thing? Will it pass? Or will I forever be up at 4am for an hour???

Advice much much appreciated!
Annie

My dd was exactly the same, she's 7mo now and I found it happened when I put her on 3 meals a day. She's stopped after a while so I wouldnt worry about it.

It'll settle down as his gut matures and is more ready for solids. You might bear in mind which foods loosen things up, as it were - apple and sweet potato will both make him poo-ier, banana will do the reverse.

Ah if only I could get him to eat banana...!! Thanks for the replies. Are there any other magic foods that 'firm things up a bit'?
