Managing Anger

Every parent has had to deal with angry confrontations. Those situations that leave both child and parent feeling battle weary. In those angry moments what has usually been lost is effective communication. Point-scoring, talking down to, shouting and in worst case scenarios lashing out and breaking of items. All of these outward manifestations of unmet needs and miscommunication. As children look to adults for how to behave we need to first understand ourselves. Here is some food for thought:

  1. What patterns of behaviour are you following? erratic or consistent?
  2. What do you do when you're angry?
  3. How do you de-stress or wind down?
  4. Are you able to separate the individual from the behaviour?
  5. Are you able to handle anger without opting for a physical release?
Let me know what you think? :)
