Toys to encourage crawling?

I'm buying a first birthday present for a friends baby who doesn't crawl yet (he's 9 months old now). Don't mind spending up to about £20. Any suggestions? Thanking you...

Errrr, three months is an incredibly long time for a baby and there's nothing to say he won't be crawling or even walking by the time his birthday comes around!

If you really want ideas, I would say maybe a selection of balls, but if you want my true advice I would suggest changing the criteria for your present!

I agree with above. These kinds of presents are really short lived in terms of value and actually don't really help. Get something her DS can use for longer :)

Stacking cups, stacking blocks, or a few good robust board books like Hungry caterpillar, where's Spot, Dear Zoo, will give hundreds of hours of pleasure for a whole year.

The only way to encourage crawling is to place the baby on its tummy and let nature take its course.
Anything can be used to put on the floor just out of the baby's reach to encourage crawling.
How about making up a nice treasure basket?

Agree with the above. You can't hurry gross motor skills and in any case a baby that stays where it is is quite handy! Mine got a lot of fun out of coloured see-through blocks you can stack and also had beans inside so they made different noises.

I found our cat was a big encouragement. So near and yet so far. Grin But don't suggest you buy her a cat. Grin

I like the idea of the treasure basket, with tempting toys in it.

25% of babies don't EVER crawl; they've actually taken crawling off the developmental milestones list because of this.

Tell your friend to chill :-)

Thank you everybody. I like the cat suggestion the most. Maybe I'll get his mummy a bottle of wine and he can play with the wrapping paper. Or phone or remote controls. Or wires. These are all popular in my house. Grin
