9 month old climbing in his cot

Help! My 9 month old has recently learned to climb and 'surf'. Thats great, but now every time I try and put him down for a nap, no matter how tired he is all he does it climb up the cot and surf round it! He can't get down again so hangs on until his arms must ache, then screams blue murder until I rescue him. I settle him back down again but as soon as I leave he room, off he goes again...

If I stay with him he won't settle and still tries to climb.

Any ideas?? It's taking up to an hour to ettle him for a nap (he has two naps a day). It's becoming a nightmare!

Time for a toddler bed !( plus a soft sided bed guard) it's not safe to keep him in his cot if he's escaping !

Spare mattress on the floor by the cot or rolled up duvet to break any fall would be worth while.

Had this with DD. I go in, pick her up, lie her down, say "go to sleep" and then leave. Repeat again and again and again until they do it. No fussing, no cooing and no messing about! I wouldn't swap beds out just yet, it's a bit early.

You meant standing up in, not climbing out of the cot I think? No real advice, just to say it will get better soon, I promise! Well, they learn to sit down by themselves at least. I do exactly what slowginny does and agree, you might find a toddler bed more trouble at 9mo.
