Baby sleeps anywhere but in her crib!

My 10 week old DD is struggling to sleep in her crib.

During the day, she naps either while breast feeding, being walked in her pram, in her carrier or in her Dad's arms. If we lie her in her crib, she is wide awake after a minute or two and displaying signs of being over tired. Mostly she has short naps, some days she will sleep several hours in her pram, after going off to sleep during a walk.

At night, I tend to feed her to sleep and she sleeps in the bed with us and she does sleep very well at night - she has two sleeps, the first from 5 - 7 hours, then a second sleep for about 2 hours, still in our bed.

I'm keen to get her more used to her crib, for both the night sleeps and her day time naps. Has anyone got suggestions on making her crib more appealing? We've tried putting toys in there and a t-shirt that her Dad has worn and also rocking her, but nothing seems to help.

My dd is the same. She is number three and neither of the others were the same. I can't really see any reason why, and she was the only one of the three who wanted to sleep on my chest when tiny. So there may be some nature in there. Others will suggest the nurture bit for helping getting her to sleep in the crib and I'll be watching with interest as we'd like some help too!

DS didn't like sleeping by himself until he was about four months old - some babies are very sensible and know that the nicest way to sleep is with someone! We slung DS during the day and just kept trying. I always fed him to sleep and put him down when he was solidly gone.

The Miracle Swaddling blanket saved our sanity. I wish we'd known about it when DD was little. DS loved the swaddle, it got him sleeping in his own cot for naps, plus he slept deeper and for longer.

My DS would sleep in pram, at playgroup in car or on sofa but not crib or moses basket. I managed to crack this when staying at my parents house, took crib with us and thought as he was somewhere un familiar it could be a good chance to get him to break bad habit and sleep in crib and it worked, made transition at home much easier and he has all naps at home in it and at night (though still co sleeps with me a bit)

We've got her sleeping in her crib now for her early morning nap, she tends to have a feed at 7am then go back down for a sleep for a couple of hours, so I've been putting her in the crib and that is fine. She is now 11 weeks and starting to play with her toys, so I've attached a couple to the crib so she is OK with that.

Next step is to put her in there at night, only concern is she gets very startled when she wakes up and isn't sure where she is, as you'd expect. I'm still feeding her to sleep so am going to try leaving the night light on so not to shock her too much! At the moment in bed with me I can quick comfort her if she startles (almost in my sleep now!).

Glad to hear its not just me unable to get their child into a crib, most people I know have got their babies in a crib or even in another room!
