My baby doesn't like cuddles

That's it really.
I'm sad.
He's dc3. 11 months old, otherwise developing normally.
I only managed to bf him until he was 3 months old due to undiagnosed tongue tie and subsequent irreversible compression damage/pain.
He will push away from me (or any other person) if I try to cuddle him.
Does anyone have any experience of this?

Well, he's 11 months now so craving some independence. Don't force it and he will start showing affection when he's ready - my DS went through a similar thing and now (14m) frequently comes up and hugs my leg or whatever!

I doubt it's anything to do with the BFing as presumably you used to cuddle him when had bottles!

Oh yes sounds exactly like my DD, she is now 13mo and is the same, doesnt "do" cuddles, wants to be so independent, never has liked to be cuddled, like you I felt really sad especially when you see other babies who are all so cuddly, i felt like i had missed out on that, but they will cuddle in time I am sure of it!
Heres hoping for the both of us!! :)

Some of them are just like that! Don't worry - it's nothing you've done :)

Pudden · 21/02/2012 16:12

I know how you feel..my dd (now almost 10) was like that. She used to push me away as soon as she could and was a right grizzly, moany, twisty, grumbly little bugger :o

Still is but she likes a cuddle now

I only get some if I pick 14Mo Baby Goo up when she is asleep. Otherwise she is too busy.

She has started to come to me recently, so things are looking up :)

My son didn't like cuddles at that age and now (he is now 22 months) he loves them. He constantly wants cuddles or tickles but when he was younger he really hated it.

geisha · 21/02/2012 18:16

Mmmm. Neither of my elder dc were overly cuddly but I was never aware of no affection at all. He is just so busy and like many of you have described craving his independence. He is my first boy though, so maybe they are a bit different. I was very strict when he was younger about him settling himself in the cot and now he leans for his cot when he as ad his bottle at bedtime. Since he was about 6 months he was so fidgety having his bottle that I have laid him on a cushion on the floor. Gosh..... While I've been typing this he's just taken his first steps!

Mine doesn't do cuddles, but does do sitting on me as if I'm a chair (and sometimes I can sneak my arms round)

My mum doesn't really get it, as her other grandchildren are a lot more affectionate.

geisha · 22/02/2012 06:34

Yes Chunky. Ds does the chair thing too. Maybe I should try to sneak a cuddle that way. I hope the cuddles will come. Most babies will have a cuddle when they first wake up but he won't. He wants me to sit near him and he will potter around with his muslin and will cry if I move but just wants me to sit there, doesn't want to cuddle me at all.
