Two year old suddenly waking 8-10 times a night...HELP!

My 2yo DD has been sleeping from 8pm-8am consistently for the last 6-9 months. She has had a cough/cold that has been lingering for a few weeks now (Dr says it's fine) and the cough was waking her up at night. This we can cope with.

For the past week or so, however, her coughing has decreased but her wakings have increased. She wakes up whinging and/or shouting for mummy/daddy. We go in and sometimes she doesn't even seem to be awake. She is not screaming or frightened just grumpy and whiny and she does go back to sleep. Not sure what to do, but me and DP are shattered by all the wakings and feel like there's nothing that we can do to help her. Any advice would very greatly appreciated.

does she have a night light?
try a light on a timer switch and tell her that she can come out or shout for mummy and daddy when this goes off.
Or try explaining to her that its not nice and is making you very tired and because your very tired you dont feel able to go to the park etc. I know it seems mean and is a bit of bribery. BUT its true! Just explain that if she stops screaming in the night then you'll be feeling better about going to the park.
