Hello, my nephew has developed some terrible personality traits since being 8 rude and belligerent to all members of the family. Lazy, off hand using casual violent gestures to me (7 months pregnant ) and my 2 year old when things dont go his way. He is very caring towards his cousin but when she pushed him away as toddlers do sometimes he reacted by creating a fist into her chest - not hard, but this really upset me and worries me. i have heard that 8 can be a difficult age as with the terrible two's - does anyone else have this experience - any helpfull suggestions ? my sister and her husband are very patiemnt with him - is he seeking attention in whatever way possible ? ie stuck in rut of 'bad behaviour' - would rewarding so called 'good' behaviour be better ? it is a daily issue at the moment.

Hi, i'm a teacher and I would suggest that your sister make an appointment to see his teacher- find out if he is having any problems at school or if they have noticed any changes in his behaviour. Has anyone sat down with him and had a bit of a heart to heart to try and get to the bottom of it? There could be an underlying problem but even just giving him chance to discuss his actions and how they are making others around him feel might do the trick...
