Does your baby like a particular piece of music/song? Is this unusual what he's doing?

My 15 month old DS has one of those musical cog things. You press buttons and plastic things swirl around as music plays. The music changes each time you press it.

I realised today that he presses the button very fast three times because he knows it will take him to a particular song, which he then likes me to sing to him. He's done it enough times for it not to be coincidence

Is this unusual? He must have played with it a zillion times so I imagine he's just worked it out...but it freaked me out a bit watching him press the button really fast and arrive where he wanted

It's a normal thing for them to do - but not quite sure at what age. DS had one of those leapfrog Scout teddies for his first birthday in October (year before last and still a firm favourite now!) and was pressing the paw buttons fast to skip to the Jingle Bells song around Christmas. I too found it amusing that he knew what he wanted.

Clever boy! He's learning cause and effect (things happen when you press buttons!). My DS is also 15 months and at that stage - doesn't have that particular toy but he had noticed switching off/on sockets which have things plugged into them, for example while I hoover, switches off the hoover and gets a big reaction from me! Buttons and switches are his big thing ATM!

I've just watched him do it again. It does spook me out a bit. He presses his hand really really fast on the knob, almost as if he knows exactly how many times in the song is! But then again, he's played with a zillion times so maybe it's not that spooky. I sound nuts, I think!

Babies are better at maths than most people think! I think numbers up to about 5 are pretty instinctive!

Yes, my DS did this when he was about the same age, and now my nephew does the same with the same leapfrog laptop thingy, skipping through until he gets to the right tune. When my DS was about 17months he had an alphabet bus with a different tune for each letter. He had about 10 favourite tunes/letters and all you had to do was ask him to play a particular tune and he would pick the right letter every time. Spooky. Think it's one of those memory abilities that you start to lose over time.
