I GOT AN APOLOGY from DD's head

Sorry for shouting but I am so shocked
I had an absolutely rotten meeting with the head and the school nurse yesterday

He grudgingly mentioned that he was going to refer her to the special needs team meeting - he had no "reason" to refer her but was going to anyway

The school nurse said he must because I was obviously upset by the situation.

He did and they have taken the whole thing really seriously - they are going to add her to their caseload, they want regular updates and will take action if the Family Support Team don't act fast enough. Apparently there is a recognised thingie (syndrome?) that mixed race children develop in predominantly whoite areas and it's connected to poor body image and is taken really seriously.

He apologised - and has done a 180 turn - I am so relieved

Thank goodness a positive step has been taken by the school.

Keep me updated please.

So glad you got an apology though.

Still have DD's parcel sat on my desk

Well done for your persistence, km.

katymac · 25/01/2006 10:19

And the best thing is that DD will be helped - that I feel vindicated is irrelevant - she will be supported and helped

I've been reading your posts and I'm so glad you got somewhere! Hurray for mums!

hub2dee · 25/01/2006 10:51

Absolutely, I imagine it is a very real problem for people who feel themselves different in some way for whatever reason. Sometimes being different can be very hard.

Best of luck with everything.

Caligula · 25/01/2006 11:03

It must be such a relief for you, knowing that at last your concerns are being taken seriously. Well done you for persisting.
