Anyone got a Ds with long hair?.Have you had any obstacles to get over concerning his hair?
Ds has been told he has got to tie his hair back for gymnastics(not quite shoulder length),he is mortified "everyone will laugh at me".
Shame if it puts him off as he is v.good at it & has wanted to do it for a long time.

Aloha · 24/01/2006 21:16

Even David Seaman saw the light eventually!

Hi, just read messages, My youngest has long hair, and he really suits it!!! we tried short hair and it made him look like a horse!!!!
He is five now and most tell me he looks lovely but some tell me to cut it off! and he IS a boy you know!! SO WHAT I SAY! He does ask me to cut it off, esp when his bro is getting a cut. The other prob is that he has big eyes with long eye lases! He is mans mans!! and head strong. It really anoys me when people say Hows you little GIRL! she soo cute, When its clear that he is wearing boys clothes!
I don't say to little girls, Hows your little boy, when that girl is wearing pink clothes and has a short hair cut like a BOYS hair cut!!!!
I tell my son" you know your a boy and you have a boys name and its other people who have the prob or other kid! just stand up for youself"
It will make him a stronger person and it will teach him to be a confideant about himself! Thats all !!!!

CheekyGirl · 12/03/2006 21:51

Ahh, I love long hair on boys! My 14mth old ds has lovely long curls, but we have had to have his fringe cut as he couldn't see, and kept getting food in it!

alexsmum · 12/03/2006 22:07

got to say elmie if your ds is 5 and is asking to have it cut then i think you should let him.

nooka · 12/03/2006 22:09

My ds has fairly long hair, a little under shoulder length I guess, but it is curly that it's only that long when it's wet. He's only once been called a girl, but as dh says that's because no girl would have such a tangled mop! I think he looks fantastic, and he thinks he looks like Anakin (Return of the Sith period). Our only problem so far has been trying to get it all into his swimming hat.

Troutpout · 12/03/2006 22:15

He's got the same choice as a girl i guess...tie it back or have it cut. ds has just started swimming with the school and anyone with long hair has to wear a hat.
If he really wants to do gym...and would truly be mortified ...then a haircut might be a good idea.

zoeuk1 · 06/04/2006 18:25

hi. i just noticed this thread and had to reply. my ds is 7 and his hair is very long. its nearly half way down his back! he insists on keeping it long. he gets called 'she' and 'her' but it doesnt seem to bother him. it really suits him and hes the only boy in his class that keeps coming home with love letters from all the girls!! im sure they all like him for his hair!

CelluliteQueen · 07/04/2006 19:21

My DS is 2.8 and has gorgeous long blonde curly hair. He was often mistaken for a girl when he was younger but I would rather he looked like a girl than a yob. Why should long hair be exclusively for girls? If he wants it cut when he's older then fine (but over my dead body Grin).

hulababy · 07/04/2006 19:25

Many schools have the tie it back policy for PE, food, and pratcical lessons. Same rule for girls and boys, so same choice - tie it up or get it cut.

moondog · 07/04/2006 19:28

Quite CQ (how are you??!)
My 21 mth old has lovely long blonde hair.
I love it.
His nursery hate it.
They tie it up in different ways every time he goes in.
Today they gave him a french plait.
Good job I'm easy going eh??

spidermama · 07/04/2006 19:29

I love long hair on boys. I love it on men too come to think of it.

CelluliteQueen · 09/04/2006 19:19

Hiya moondog, sorry, only just seen your message. I am fine thanks - harrassed but fine! Hope all is well with you and your lot. The invitation for coffee still stands!

Flamesparrow · 09/04/2006 19:52

Yay!!! Lots of boys with long hair - I like boys with longer hair, and now having a son, I have been all :( about the prospect of having it cut some time in the future... think I'll stick to my guns Grin

jac34 · 09/04/2006 20:10

My boys(7yo) have short hair, not thugish but short at the sides and cut pretty short on top. They can wash it and don't really need to even comb it.It's very practical and very easy when checking for head lice.My sons both have very long eye lashes and really would look like girls if they grew their hair.
Personally,I don't think I could be bothered with the extra work of them growing long hair and I certainly would not put my child through the humiliation of looking like a right jessie.

DumbledoresGirl · 09/04/2006 20:36

My 9 and 8 yo boys have fairly standard hair lengths - not shor tback and sides, but not shoulder length flowing locks. I would love it if their hair was long and they always want to grow it, but dh keeps taking them off to the barber. I did go through a phase of shaving their heads myself with the longest possible length shears but they still looked like skinhead louts and I loathe the photos of them at that time.

Last week, I took dd to have her waist length hair cut into a bob (her choice and it looks really nice) and I noticed quite a few boys were getting hair cuts (just trims) who had shoulder length hair. I am glad the fashion is for longer hair these days.

bitsamaloney · 09/04/2006 20:40

why does short hair = yob??

maltesers · 09/04/2006 20:45

yesterday mu dp went to get his hair cut and i let my 5 yr old ds go too. Big Mistake .. he got his hair cut too so now it short...too short. I like boys with longish hair..just over the ears and to the collar, but not down to shoulders...bit too girly !

Curmudgeonlett · 22/06/2007 16:47

I have to say that if a child is asking to get his hair cut and you refuse to do it because you think it looks nicer longer

well that's just plain shallow isn't it?

Curmudgeonlett · 22/06/2007 16:48

I like long hair

a teenager can decide to grow their hair long

until that age then its up to the parents

if there's any sense of humiliation in being 'different' and they ask for it to be cut .. then cut it

simple

Blu · 22/06/2007 16:50

Um, Twig, do you have some bee in your bonnet about this that you have seemingly randomly revived this ancient thread?
