Competitive 6 year olds

My DD and my friend's DD go to an after school activity once a week, so my friend and I do alternate weeks - one week I take the girls to their class, the other week she takes them and I look after our DSs. My DS1 and her DS are both 6. They are not best friends, but they get on OK.

I'm a bit taken aback by how competitive they are. Anything they play with is accompanied by a constant stream of 'I'm winning', 'I'm beating you', 'that didn't count' etc etc. I hate the idea of my DS1 being like this - do you think I should try to step in and stop it, or is this normal for 6yo boys?

unfortunately it is common amongs this age.......I used to walk a little boy from one school to another (5 min walk) for his mum who was busy, he was 6 and spoke in a monotone all the way "my house is bigger than your house, my car is bigger than your car, I have more toys than you, I have more lego than you, I am going on a better holiday than you..." on and on without a breath!! I was on the verge of a nervous breakdown by the time we handed him over. My son who was 5 at the time used to just walk along silently but after a few weeks I was saying loudly under my breath "who cares!"

I have noticed it a lot since then and now ds is bigger (11) I hear his friends bragging more about how good they are a football etc. Thankfully he doesn't care if anyone is better at anything or has more than him. He is pretty placid. x
