Anyone had bath refusal?

DD is nearly 1 and has always loved her bath, but last few days has refused to sit down, and pees when we put her in! Very unhappy, and won't sit. Didn't like being hosed down with the shower either, so we're just flannelling her and basically giving up. Anyone had this, did it pass quickly?

yep, dd (now 2) went through a few months of really not being keen on bath sometime around 1 too. tended to just dunk her in it for a quick splash wash and then out again. she loves bath now.

Thanks for the reassurance. It's a shame, as was always a nice calm part of the bedtime routine, but I guess we'll get over it :)

We had this... Ds2 refused to sit down from 12 to 26 months, so quite a while. We battled to begin with, not the best tactic IMO.
Best just to splash some water around and get them out ASAP.
He still doesn't love baths or water now and he's 10.
The only thing I'd say is keep a check on ears, turned out ds2 had glue ear and hated water round his ears which was part of the problem.

Thanks Ingles2, that's helpful, and a little worrying! Amazed to hear it lasted that long... At what point was the glue ear diagnosed, and how do you tell they've got it? (DD always has colds and is often v snuffly...)

try not to worry Smile I made it into much bigger deal than I needed to by worrying... it really wouldn't be the end of the world if you just washed with a flannel for a whole year, honestly Grin
Hearing was picked up at his 2 year check, but if you think there is any problem with dd's hearing you should speak to your HV before then.

Have you tried getting in the bath too?

Bath once a week may seem like fun instead of a pointless daily chore. I bath my boys once/twice a week.

Falsley · 06/02/2012 12:45

My DD started refusing a bath when about 1yr old - lots of screaming and crying.
We didn't force the issue and gave her a bath once a week with either me or my dp and just topped and tailed her the rest of the time.
She is now loving her bath again at 16 months old but its no longer part of her bedtime routine as it only happens 2 or 3 times a week.

Yes, ours hated it from about the time that she started to want to be sat up/stood up all the time and would not lie down to have her hair washed - she has always hated that bit anyway. We haven't got a bath, only a shower so as soon as she outgrew the baby bath we started showering her instead. She is nearly 17 MO now and still isn't keen (stick-on bath/shower foam animals help distract her), but it's really really quick, two minutes max - a lot easier than the baby bath anyway. Maybe try a quick shower or just a sponge-down in the bath whilst she stands and plays with something?

Oh and blowing a few bubbles afterwards whilst she's sitting drip-drying for a minute or two always calms her down - she loves them. Could you do that after the actual washing/hair washing, to make it more fun?

Our DD has just started this age 2. Previously we couldn't get her out of the bath! We have started having showers together in the morning instead :)
